| Walk starts at the Shropshire Wildlife Trust Visitor Centre. Get up really early (or don’t go to bed at all!) for this magical event. Walk along a tributary of the Severn in the heart of Shrewsbury for an unforgettable dawn chorus. Please dress warmly, binoculars and a warm drink will be useful too if you have them. This event is open to the public and carries a small charge to cover breakfast. £5.00 per person. 4.30am – 9.00am |

Join local Archaeologist Dr Nigel Baker on a journey of discovery around Shrewsbury’s river loop in Canoes and Bellboats. Looking at the town’s medieval defences and castle, lost streams, ancient fords, historic wharfs, Victorian health hazards and much more. Participants should be aware that although we start at Frankwell the finish point is at Shrewsbury Weir. No previous paddling experience is required. Participants should be dressed in suitable outdoor clothing and soft soled shoes. River levels may lead to change of date. 7pm. £15 |

Over 4 million men were demobilised between 1945 and 1947 and the talk deals with the thorny topic of returning heroes – a problem that we still face today. Julie Summers has interviewed over 100 women and in this book she tells their side of the story. His trenchant criticism of slavery made him more enemies than friends but over 5,000 queued to buy tickets for his readings. Richard Field taught English at Shrewsbury School for over 30 years. | The Shropshire Branch of the Embroiderers invite you to a talk by Mary Sleigh. Mary is a leading textile artist who regularly exhibits. Her illustrated talk, ‘Inspiration from Africa’ will include some of her personal work and examples from her extensive collection of African textiles, beadwork and baskets. Following the talk, Mary will run a day workshop at The Lantern, Shrewsbury on Wednesday, July 7th. The workshop title is ‘African Inspiration – working with fabric and thread’. Limited places may be available, cost to non-members £25. Pre-booking is essential. 7pm. Non-members £5 on the door. |
