Destination Shrewsbury

The biggest star of Shrewsbury’s Summer Season might just be the town itself!

Shropshire’s county town is a wonderfully historic place of black and white timber buildings and medieval streets with an imposing red sandstone castle and a Norman Abbey.

It’s a lovely place simply to wander around taking in the architecture and atmosphere, and this is a town centre which still has lots of very interesting independent shops and markets in its squares and streets, as well as two modern shopping centres open seven days a week.

With the River Severn looping around the town there are plenty of scenic riverside walks to enjoy, or why not try a cruise on the riverboat “Sabrina” which runs from Victoria Quay.

The superb park and gardens in the Quarry alongside the river are the setting for some of our major events and just along the riverbank sits Theatre Severn. Due to open in February 2009 this new development will house a 650-seat main auditorium, 250-seat studio theatre and play host to a fantastic programme of events, further developing Shrewsbury’s vibrant cultural scene.

Shrewsbury is the natural base for exploring the Shropshire Hills, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, as well as the countryside, castles and abbeys of the Welsh borders.
