I work with metal and enamel, often manipulating the metal before decorating the pieces with enamel to create unique
and highly individual jewellery and three dimensional forms. Much of the work is experimental, using extremely high firing temperatures, causing the enamel and metal to interact in unusual and unpredictable ways.

Sue Campion studied at Nottingham University and then travelled widely, spending considerable time in Spain, where she applied her skill painting colourful Andalusian landscapes. She now lives in Shropshire and paints rural England with the same accomplished sense of design and expertise.

Donatella works with mixed media and textiles creating images of narrative quality. Most recently she has been
working with acrylics and collage illustrating children’s books. In all of her work there is an element of humour, timeless scenes of everyday life filtered through imagination. Her textured collages and quirky fabric pictures have been exhibited widely. Her textiles have been featured in a recent publication by Laurence King, Textiles Now.

Oils, watercolours and monotype prints. I usually begin with a series of small watercolours, painted in the landscape, in which I try to define sensations of time and place. From these initial responses I select and develop ideas in sketchbooks and drawings to clarify directions for the larger paintings.

Julie is an experienced weaver, braidmaker and teacher. Since 1991 she has been researching the Indian technique
of Ply-Split Braiding, used traditionally for animal harnesses and has developed it to make necklaces, bracelets, accessories and also sculptural pieces. Julie gives talks and workshops in Ply-Splitting and Indian textiles. She has exhibited and sold her work in the UK and abroad and works to commission.

Mick Gilmore’s studio is at his home, 3 miles south of Shrewsbury. His work is mainly contemporary landscapes but also includes some bold figure and life drawings. He uses acrylic and pastel to capture the influence of light on the landscape and create mood or atmosphere. A visit to Mick’s studio gives you the opportunity to wander round his interesting garden with its fruit trees, terracing and organic vegetable plots. Working with green wood from native, sustainable sources has helped me develop as a woodland artist. Examples of work and photographs will show my appreciation of previous generations of woodland craftpersons. From a new studio built using sustainable techniques, Andrew produces paintings, photography and constructed reliefs with a variety of media and found materials. He is interested in how people interact with rural and urban environments. Andrew’s work is often multi-layered, reinterpreting natural and architectural forms using geometry, rhythm, and transition.

Mark Hulcoop, originally from Devon, now resides in Shropshire. He works in both pastel and oils. Whilst living in Devon he spent many hours hiking across Dartmoor and it was this landscape, desolate yet evocative, which inspired him to paint. Since moving, he has applied these skills to the landscapes of Shropshire and Welsh hills. For Open Studios 2010 he is adding to the rich mix that is the English Bridge Workshops.

Fergus Reid takes photographs that fall into two categories: semi-abstract work that relies on the relationship of colour and form, and colourful photographic representations of the landscape. He is particularly interested in flattening space in the photographic image and lists the photographer Aaron Siskind as one of his main influences. Fergus also creates oil paintings that explore the formal qualities of the Shropshire landscape.
